Vladimir A. Popov’s exhibition
Vladimir A. Popov is the first and the only Russian artist in Tatarstan that works in genres and traditions of Islamic painting. Over the last ten years Popov has painted more than 300 works of the oriental calligraphy such as tughra, šamail and calligraphic compositions. It is a new step of Tatar art which introduces this kind of art at the international level. Orientalists and specialist in Islamic studies recognize the artist’s talent of a calligrapher (khatat) and consider his cryptography as contribution in developing contemporary Oriental religious culture.
More than 100 works of Vladimir A. Popov kept in museums and private collections all around the world. Our gallery has 10 drawings and 20 paintings that were made during the period from 1950 to 2000. Vladimir A. Popov’s works attract people because they are expressive and rich in content. His images are monumental and laconical. Those painting enthusiasts that miss pictures painted in traditions of old classical artistic school of Kazan are welcomed to us.
